That evening, I went down to the dining hall filled with anticipation. Breakfast and lunch had been so heavenly that my heart practically thumped with excitement for what culinary masterpiece dinner would bring. I’d eaten lunch alone earlier. Katherine had once again used a headache as an excuse not to come out, and Ivan had gone out, saying he wouldn’t be back until late. Isabella had claimed to be busy and ate in her room. I was beginning to think it was a blessing that the ducal family either disliked me or wasn’t interested in me. As someone accustomed to eating alone, it was an incredible relief.
